This forum also gets questions related to web browsers and now that
Internet Explorer 7 has been out of beta for a while, here are three
Windows Registry tweaks that might be asked in the future on how to
make Internet Explorer 7 look a bit more like Internet Explorer 6 in
case there are people who are used to the old cl***ic user interface
and like it more.
Notes: Make the registry changes at your own risk! You should know what
you are doing. At least make a backup copy of the registry before
making changes. You probably need to have administrator rights to
change the Windows Registry. If the registry key doesn't exist, you
need to create it. You can start Windows Registry Editor from Start ->
Run -> regedit (OK).
1. Remove the Command Bar in IE7
In Internet Explorer 7, select Tools -> Internet Options -> General ->
Tabs -> Settings -> uncheck "Enable Tabbed Browsing (requires
restarting Internet Explorer)" and then add/change the following
Windows Registry key (DWORD) value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\CommandBar\Enabled
-> (DWORD) value: 0
2. Put the Menu Bar back at the top in IE7 as it is in IE6
Add/change the following Windows Registry key (DWORD) value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\ITBar7Position
-> (DWORD) value: 1
3. Remove the search box in IE7
Add/change the following Windows Registry key (DWORD) value:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet
Explorer\InfoDelivery\Restrictions\NoSearchBox
-> (DWORD) value: 1
