Default Chat with ICQ/AOL.... members - 06-04-2007, 04:04 AM

I really love googlemail, and especially the chat function.
Unfortunately I cannot persuade all my friends to defect to google. So,
I was wondering if you are planning to incorporate any features that
allow you to chat with icq members from within google.
I always used Trillian to chat "across" the unnecesary boundaries of
the various instant communication services, but, well, it would be
definately nicer to have everything "online" and all-time accessible
(not only on my own computer).

You can do it with a trick!
Install, for example PSI, an instant messenger that has Jabber support
and allows to "transport" other chat-languages like ICQ.
You take a free Jabber Server, register with your ICQ username and pw
and then you can create emailadresses like <an icq
number>@icq.nameofthejabberserver.xxx
If you have done it right, you'll see these email adresses as online
contacts if the icq-user with this number is online. Now you can write
him and recive messages like you would do it in googlemail.

I think there are several tutorials on the web. Just search google and
you will surely find some.

Greetings,
Darlok
