In our school district we are receiving the following when attemting to
access various Google services:

"We're sorry...
.... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer
virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process
your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In
the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been
infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to
make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious
software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on
Google."

The services that we cannot reach are:

- Google Book Search
- Google Catalogs
- Google Scholar

We are not experiencing any virus issues in our district. Would you be
aware of any recent changes at Google that are causing this problem?
Just last week these tools were available.

Just a stab in the dark here...Has your school or district placed a
block on Google IP addresses? My husband's district recently placed a
block on all Google GMail. Very bummed out by this.

With the types of searches you mentioned, the schools may be worried
about child porn.

We have filtering software in place but it is not blocking the services
listed above. The error message is an actual Google error that states
it is blocking us and not our district blocking Google.

glad it isnt my district...
i would be livid
and i would be speaking up! this is not china after all
and certainily they dont need to make it an across the board gmail
block...
and certainily some lazy person can get off their duff and add
accceptable gmail addresses !

oops.. personally, i would prefer that yahoo or aol be blocked...
those addresses have mor slush processed thru them than any service...
more popups containing more slush than i would ever consider
acceptable...

This is not an e-mail (gmail) problem. We give students e-mail
addresses in our district. THIS IS NOT E-MAIL. It is Google Scholar,
Google Catalog, and Google Book Search. Oddly enough, this morning
Catalog and Book Search are once again working but Scholar is still
giving us the same message as above.
