Default Google is NOT defending our rights of privacy!! - 05-14-2007, 11:19 AM

Google is not arguing that they should not give up the data because of
inherent rights of privacy. They are only arguing that the
government's request is onerous (i.e., a pain in the *** to do). I
would like Google to argue that the information should be regarded as
protected and private -- that when we are searching we have an
***umption of privacy and anonymity.

What if the government revises its request and wants to see only the
records of 1000 users? What will be Google's response to the
government if the request is no longer seen as onerous? How will they
protect our rights? It may even be a violation now if Google were to
delete the requested data if their only argument is that the request
would take too much effort to fulfill.

I am outraged at Google's refusal to comply with the court order.
According to C-Net: "Federal prosecutors have asked Google, Microsoft,
Yahoo and America Online to turn over two types of data: logs showing
search terms used by people, and a list of Web sites indexed by the
companies' search engines." They are NOT asking for user information
so no ones privacy is going to be comprimised. Google and others SELL
this information to companies so they can analyse marketing trends.
The governement wants to use it to be sure minors are not readily able
to view pornography and gather stats. What is the problem. I use
Google extensively and sadly I will have to consider an alternitive if
they do not revese their position.

If Google goes along with handing over search records to the government
it will set a terrible president ! If they do I'm removing google as my
home page and will find an alternate search engine . I will also start
using "tor".Tor is an an anonymous Internet communication system
and can be found at http://tor.eff.org/

To peter.tewfik: Anyone who supports this sort of government intrusion
would be more comfortable living in Salem, M*** in the 1600's. To hell
with the government trying to enforce juvenile viewing habits online or
anywhere else -- that responsibility belongs in the home. And if kids
can't be persuaded to not use library research resources for
age-inappropriate purposes, then so what? It's not society's job to do
what parents can't. Use your energy to teach your kids by example of
your comp***ion and kindness -- decent young humans will follow. If
they see a little skin of the opposite gender in the meantime, perhaps
sex won't be as difficult for them as it apparently is for some of
their elders.

To Google I say: Stay the course; never give in. And get a backbone
over China's censorious policies -- shame on you for being as spineless
as Microsoft, Yahoo and the others...

Go use yahoo or msn. Their search engines suck, but at least they don't
mind handing information over to the government.

I'll be sticking with google.

It is not a matter of that the government wants Google to submit, but
the inforence that the government wants to spy on anything you will do
on the internet in the "future". If you give the government an inch,
they will take a mile. What is next? your searching for any political
information, the more you search, the more upset your going to become
about the actions of our government restricting your freedoms. While
"who is searching for pornography" sounds like a good reason, it is not
limited to who is what age searching for pornography. Now go on to
Google and search for "Aid to country" replace country with the name of
any country in the world, and you will be amazed as to where our money
is being handed out like Candy all over the world. Any gathering by the
government of your name, internet address, political beliefs, etc is
private for you. Suppose the Republicans now want to know who is
searching for information on the Democrats? Believe me the government
is planning on doing away with our Constitution, and Bill of Rights. So
search on Google for "Trilateral Commission". I'm planning on running
for president in 2008 to save America. The government is planning to
eliminate our borders between Canada and Mexico. How does that strike
you? We will then be citizens of the North American Union. The same
thing happening the Europeon Union. We will then be part of the
globalization of the world. Notice how many American jobs now go
overseas, companies close here, and open in other countries. We are
going to be a third world nation. Our manufacturing is leaving the
country, factories closing over and over. Ford lays off 30,000 this
month, General Motors lays off 30,000 this month (Jan 2006) what does
that tell you. If we have another war where will we manufacture the war
materials we need? We won't, we will be defensless, war over. United
Nation troups brought to America to control (shoot you in to
submission) to make us just part of the United Nations. End of America.
So demanding Google give your email address for anything is the
beginning of the end for America.
Don Cordell

Do you really believe that 'save the children' crap they are using to
put this through? Your gov't is currently under investigation for
violation of civil rights of privacy.

What if during their search they find some activity that makes thes
suspicious. Can they then use that to open a case and get the personal
information they say they are not asking for now.

If they want to see what porn comes up when searches are made, they can
just surf the web like everyone else.

You need to STFU if you don't like how Google is handling this. I bet
you're some stupid Yahoo! user.

Google is #1 for a good reason. I have always liked the way how they do
business. They don't need to advertise like Yahoo! and Ebay do, because
they're just that good to where they don't need it.
