Default Recommendations for RELIABLE host - small business - 05-14-2007, 01:52 AM

Hi there, from the grand universe of providers, I need to choose a new
host to get away from Apollo Hosting asap. Email and downtime is now
a regular problem even after being switched to a supposedly more
reliable server. Reliability for uptime and as close-to-real-time
email
responsiveness is my main concern. I serve radio and tv stations who
need to send and receive scripts audio files via my ftp/email through
my site, for commercials. My Apolllo acct has enough capacity - it is
their plesk-based ecommerce pro hosting plan @ abt. 21.00/month...

Email is regularly failing - both delays and random server downtime
during peak daytime business periods.

Just need capacity in the realm of 2-5G storage - at least a few
mailboxes, anonymous FTP,
and media (real audio, windows media) capabilities.

I am a sole proprietorship so i don't need big business features -
just RELIABLE uptime and
email dependability and adequate storage/throughput capability for
clients to contact me and retrieve audio files rapidly... Rapid
response time is critical. Any suggestions of specific hosts or where
i need to search for objective and concise advise, Greatly
Appreciated! Thanks folks,

Mike

Get a dedicated server at $99 a month. They offer 24/7 support, and I
have tested this, the response time to errors is in my experience
within twenty minutes.

You can pay more and get better service, like a managed server where
an IT team constantly monitor it, but they may be over kill for you?

Thanks - Will give them a look, however...
Is there anything in the "under-$50" range that you might suggest
that at least can be counted on for better uptime and reliability than
Apollo ?
I realize that's a very subjective question - and the answers vary
over time, but if there's a place you can suggest to look for genuine
unbiased feedback about webhosts in that lower budget category, i'm
afraid i have to stay in that price range... It's hard to narrow down
which ratings/review sites are company-sponsored and which ones are
actually customer or user-driven...

Thanks again,

Mike

Depending on how comfortable you are managing a server, you should
consider PowerVPS and ServInt. PowerVPS will cost a little less. ServInt
will offer more hand-holding. Both are well known and recommended.

I second the ServInt recommendation. It's been just over 3 months with
them, no downtime. The one issue I had was resolved within 10 minutes -
and that was on Thanksgiving Day.
