Does anyone know of a utility that will record the audio being played by
the computer? I'm thinking of an audio equivalent of Camtasia...

Cooledit

Only its no longer produced or supported (a big bummer for those of us
who paid for it).

Sure it does. The development company Syntrillium was aquired by Adobe
back in 2003, and Cool Edit Pro is now known as Adobe Audition.

Yup, accessories>enterstainment off the start menu>programs.

But I'm not sure it alone can do what the OP is looking to do.
