You'd be lucky to find one that charges less than $7.00 (including any
sort of time-limited discount), actually. TBH, if you find any
registration fee below $5.00, there's more than one string attached.

1and1 support is not good, and "tech support" is incompetent, but so far it
is ok for the cheap price. I didn't read the horror stories on that site
though.

I think GoDaddy is much worse. If there is a better cheap registrar I would
be interested to know.

Here are the cheapest registrars I have found, no strings attached. Cheapest
is $1.99, and I have personally used them. If you know of better, let me
know, so I can add them to my list.
