Animated GIF

Tried putting an animated gif as both a picture and an image. When the
program is run, the gif doesn't animate. Not possible with VB6?

You have to either write code to animate the gif or get an animated gif ocx.
Plenty of them available, some are free. Start by looking in coding forums
such as http://www.planetsourcecode.com
