Default index page? - 05-09-2007, 05:28 PM

Hi,

Can anyone tell me why the following page cannot be found using a
Google search?

http://mywebsite.bigpond.com/pep-lill/index.htm

and yet this one:
http://mywebsite.bigpond.com/pep-lill/bornready.html

which links from the main page comes up easily?

I can understand if the second page is just more popular, but I can't
get the main page to come up at all, no matter what I type in the
search engine.

thanks

Vickie

Just wanted to add something...in case it is relevant.

The 2nd link used to be the index page when the site was hosted on a
different server. It was copied onto a new server and the name of the
page was changed. All pages on the old server have now been deleted
but still appear in the Google searches. So I am wondering if this may
be a timing thing?

Although it still doesn't explain to me why the new index page can't be
found at all.

thanks

so how do I get Google to Cache it if I can't find it using Google?

Just make sure it is spiderable and there an IBL to it - which there
is because you posted it here

Sorry to be a pain in the butt...

yes it is spiderable, according to the Delorie site test.

I just thought of another issue that may be a factor?

The page exists twice, on 2 different servers. One is in the
US & one is in Australia. They are identical in every way. Could that
be it? They have different addresses but are the same page. I seem to
remember somewhere reading on Google that you shouldn't have the same
content on 2 pages.

For some reason, the site was not being found in Google Australia when
the kennel moved, hence the reason for the duplicate.

thanks
Vickie

You MAY have a validation issue:

http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...ll%2Findex.htm

It doesn't normallyy stop a bot, but these are pretty fundamental and
just might.

Yup, that could well be it. Google may well have decided it doesn't
need two of them so it de-indexed one of them.

Bill has hit the nail on the head, check out the URLs in
http://www.copyscape.com/, although the second URL is only visible on the
cached version
http://www.copyscape.com/view.php?o=....html&w=39&c=1

Google especially is looking for duplicate content, remove the dupes -
generate original content.
