Default Page not indexed? - 05-09-2007, 05:28 PM

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...ite_index.html

It's linked from the bottom of all Real Estate section pages in
washingtonpost.com, using anchor text "Site Map". The majority of the
real estate section pages are indexed, why wouldn't this page be?
Shouldn't search engine spiders follow the "Site Map" links on any of
those pages and get to it?

It's not a new page, it's been there for a while. The strange thing is
that it's not indexed by any of the major search engines. Is there
anything that's preventing that page from being indexed?

Thanks,
--Paul.

What's the exact code of the link? Can you post it here?

Maybe the page is not indexed because there is no followable link to it.
The only link I could find was hidden in javascript.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...tate_footer.js

If you want the page indexed then put a proper link to it.

Best regards, Eric.

Not everyone wants their pages cached by
google, especially if they are subscription based.

Example of a page linked to it:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...nt/realestate/
Code of link: <a
href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/realestate/site_index.html">Site
Map</a>

That's what I suspected.

Then they shouldn't be surprised when they aren't indexed.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I thought the "Site Map" reference in the
HTML was for that link, but it was for a diff sitemap for Washington
Post generic footer.

My carelessness.
Thanks,
--Paul
