Default Help with this website - 06-02-2007, 07:51 PM

Hello, Don't know if this is the right place to post this but..

I have a carpet and upholstery cleaning business and trying to go up
in rank with Google.
Currently #21 with keywords "carpet cleaning in san jose".

The #1 position is taken by this site "www.bay-area-cleaning.com". Can
someone look at this site. There is some weird links in there that
apparantley are helping in it's ranks such as "website/kw="keywords".
These lead you back to the same site when you click on any of the
links. Also other links with .asp pages that lead you to the same
site. This site is also one of a group of companies throughout the
nation that are sharing links. They all have the same type of
structure and the registrant is the same.

Do I just concentrate on there external links based on the search
engine. For instance google's "link:website" search comes up with only
27 links while the same search on yahoo comes up with about 1300.

thanks,
Albert

Hey

You are on the right track. Know your keyphrase competitors.

Don't worry so much about link building but concentrate on your own
content, including the internal linking structure. Your internal links
can be of more value than any incoming link.

Content. Quality content should be your goal. Make a web presentation
for the visitor first and if you do it right, it pleases the SE too.

Hi Albert,

Those kw="keywords" links at the bottom of the page just lead back to the
top of the same page. They aren't really doing anything for the site, it's a
rather pointless exercise.

Don't worry about Google's link search turning up so few links. The Google
link: search has always just shown a fraction of the links they know about.
They probably have found most of the same ones that Yahoo has, they just
don't report them all. If you sign up for Google's Webmaster Tools you'll be
able to see many more.

Fred is right, do develop your site's content so it attracts links. But
building some more links to your site will help, too.

All links to your site from quality / related sources are good (Try other
local businesses, specialized topic & general directories, sites having to
do with cleaning, local directories...). Do try to get links to your site
with your keywords the link text, as that will help you most in ranking for
those keywords / keyprhases.

For instance, link text that reads something like:
XYZ Company - San Jose Carpet Cleaning
San Jose Carpet Cleaning
XYZ Carpet Cleaning - San Jose

will help you move up for the terms you want to rank for.

cheers ~
Denise

Good observation Denise. Indeed you are correct. Get rid of that shit.

Pardon me as I am on the run again. Going from James Bay frontier to
Montreal.

Trying to write an article about the Ottawa Senators against the
Anaheim Mighty Duck fopr the Stanley Cup for my blog. This is the
first time I am doing this from an airplane.

Things have changed in the last fifteen years.

Do you have a website, I want to know who you are.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep working on my page. I'm also trying
to get into directories that deal with the same subject. My site is
www.crystalcd.com
