Default To external pages- keywords links - rel=nofollow. - 06-02-2007, 08:51 PM

Hi all!

I ve found info that linking to good (content rich, no spam) external
sites will improve page rank (not dramatically but still will
improve), but if the link will have the atribut rel="nofollow" to
secure my pagerank? Will it still improve my page rank for linking to
other good sites?

I think the correct answer would be, why worry? If your site's overall
usefulness and worth to your typical visitor is improved by having
links to other useful sites, why worry about PR one way or the other?
We keep getting into chicken and egg situations regarding PR, think
quality experience for visitors first, PR a distant second.

PR has little to do with search engine rankings, often very little. It
is but one of many factors that decides which web page is most
suitable for a keyphrase search.

I think the search engines are moving more towards the natural
evolution of links, and so they should. Unique, richly crafted content
that is well presented to the web visitor turns into a telephone call
more frequently than empowered garbage.

Links acquired based on a web designer thinking its content would be
of value for his web visitor is a natural link, based on merit from
the content.

Concentrate on crafting your content. Sure, go solicit for some links
from relevant themed sources, but this type of activity should be kept
at a minimum.

Your internal linking is more valuable than incoming links.

As far as the rel="nofollow" goes. I can't seem to understand why the
search engine came up with this. If you don't want a spider to follow
what you do want an Internet visitor to follow then the search engine
doesn't get to see what your webpage thinks is relevant content. This
seems like another compromise headed for the chopping block.

That is intersting - I have always consider PageRank as a result of
linking and the content . So the PageRank has not too much with the
content?

When search engines compare the content and the PageRank ?

Correct.
I have a PR5 page that just says :
"We have a number of feathers to add to the site. These take time to
add, so please bear with us. You can contact us if you wish to find
out exactly what we have in stock."

>When search engines compare the content and the PageRank ?

When it is using it's algo, along with another 100 things.

It might be silly question ,but the PageRank is not equivalent of the
Search Engine Position ?

Not really.

A PR1 can topple a PR5 or more in the same competitive keyphrase
competition.

There is no such thing as a silly question
PR has nothing to do with ranking. I've had pages with low pr out rank
higher pr pages.

If the PageRank has nothing to result page position , what is the
purpose of using PR by Google? I know about the voting by linking and
all about the Page's Algorithm, but know I would like to why google is
using such stat like PR.

There are over 100 things in google's algo that determine page rank.
PR is just one small part of it.
