Default Adult ads - any statistics? - 06-02-2007, 08:51 PM

Hi,

I have no intention of offending anyone, this is without a doubt, a
controversial topic.

Anyway...

I'm trying to estimate how much of the online advertising revenues come
from adult related ads (e.g. PPC ads). Does anyone have any
numbers/statistics?

There are so many rumours about this segment and I do have my doubts.

US revenue from Internet porn was $2.84 bn in 2006 according to some article
I read. 89% of this is made in the USA so the total world-wide revenue could
be
around $3.2 bn or so, in 2006.

Revenues from online ads were $16,8 bn in 2006 (world wide).

So revenues from online adult *ads* can not be more than 3.2/16.8.
That'd be 19% of the ads.

However, they get their income from so many other things than ads.
Paid downloads, DVDs, lingerie etc. So the question is how many percent of
these
$3.2 bn do you think come from ads? Do you have any statistics?

It'd be interesting to see a pie chart which describes the type of ads that
are
paid for on the search engines and on other sites.

Small correction:

Actually, what I was thinking about is how much these companies spend on
ads and how big share of the total ads spent annually they constitute.

I don't know if this is the report you read but if not, maybe it contains
more info on what you're searching for.

Yeah, I read that one. Thanks anyway Jan. But it doesn't say how much they
spend
on advertising. I guess there are no statstics on that, it's a well kept
secret for each company.

What's common for ordinary companies? How much money do they spend on
advertising,
e.g. search engine ads, compared to their revenue? 25% or the revenue? Or
even more?
Are the "adult" companies different in that sense compared with "ordinary"
companies?
