Default Multiple URL's, same page - 06-02-2007, 07:50 PM

I have numerous pages of my site indexed in Google (and others).
However now I want to change my URL structure, without losing rank or
using redirects.

Example URLs, both go to same contnt:

Old style - http://www.mysite.com/dir1/index.asp?id=100

New style - http://www.mysite.com/downloads/audio/100/

I would use all the new style throughout my site, BUT the old URL
would still work too. I wouldn't be using the Old URL anywhere on my
site anymore, but the old URL would still work.

So, both URLs would go to the same page/content, but I'd only be using
the new URL on the site.

Do you feel this would be against search engine "policies", to have
multiple URLs go to same content? Even if I don't display the OLD URL
on the site anymore?

I'd be inclined to avoid it if I could. You got a big site?

Hello Bill,
Yes, 1000's of pages. But the new URL structure is pretty mandatory,
to optimize for indexing. I don;t intend to use the Old URL on the
site anymore, but they will still exisit in be functional.

I would expect this sort of thing to be pretty common, with the way
search engine, and competition, keep refining.

And, these bullsh@t sites that are just Google scraper, and just have
search engine type links are starting to monopolize the Google index.
So, have to try to stay on top of the changes, including optimal URL
structure.
