I've seen these programs that guarantee a top ten ranking on google or
whatever. Anybody have any experience with any of these programs?
Can they deliver or are they scams?

Of course they are scams; if eleven of us take up the offer, we cannot ALL
get in the top ten.

TIP: when spamming a newsgroup, don't use an email address with the same
name as the site you've "seen".

I don't understand what you're saying here ... I wasn't spamming the
newsgroup if that's what you're implying. What do you mean about the
email being the same as a site I've "seen"? I don't want anybody to
think I'm stupid, but I really don't know what you're getting at ...

My question comes about because my boss got an email from one of these
Top Ten Ranking companies and so it got p***ed to me ... The only
thing that I could see that they supposedly offer that I don't know
how to get is quality links back to the site, but I can't see how they
can get those either ...

At first glance, your post looked like a typical spam post. Andrew must
think that the link you provided goes to the SEO service you described.
It is common for spammer to post to a newsgroup hyping a site they "just
found" that turns out to be their own.

They can't. The way to get quality links to your site is to write
compelling content that people want to link to. I would guess (and this
is just a guess) that the SEO service will pay link farms to link to
your site, then p*** cost on to you.

In any case, simple math will tell you that only 10 sites will be in the
top 10 for any search term in Google. Nobody can guarantee to make your
site one of those 10.
