You don't post images there. You simply let Google crawl your site and
find them. In fact, unless you have a major issue with Googlebot access to
your site you can be sure that most if not all of your images have been
found already.

Do you mean included in Google Image Search?

TEN POINT PLAN

1. make a good, Google friendly site
2. include your images
3. be sure the images have appropriate captions
4. Be sure the images have appropiate ALT text
5. Be sure the images are on a page which is relevant to their ALT and
captions
6. Use image filenames that relate to the pictures
7. Wait
8. Hope for the best
9. No guarantees
10. But it works for me!

First things first - but not necessarily in that order.

* Put a sentence right above the image that has your keyword(s) somewhere in
it. Alternatively put your image in the same block level HTML element as
your image.

* Use your keyword in the image's alt attribute text

* Be descriptive in the filename.

Is putting the description ABOVE the image tag more important than
below? Does below work at all?

Interesting. When browsing images in *ahem* that big search engine which I
prefer not to give unfair advtntage to, the captions are sometimes ***igned
to the wrong images. That said, the alt attribute not only helps <insert
search engine here>, but it also helps confidence in cl***ifiaction, which
can increase referrals/traffic/whatever you make out of it. None of this is
exact science (we merely try to specullate by 'backward engineering' the
algorithm), but I get almost thousands of referrals per day owing to images
that are aptly labelled. If people search for "cat", they are unlikely to
then click on an image of a dog that happened to have been above the kitty.

This thread has been really helpful. Does Google Image help us in getting traffic to out site?? Well generally when I used the images I clicked on the image which led to a site, I feel it might be in similar way that we too can get traffic to our site.

The short answer is yes. You can get some good traffic to your site this way. However it really depends on the pics.

Unfortunately it's also a good way for people to steal your pics to use on their site.

Yeah, the pictures that turn out to be popular would rather make other persons to steal mostly for traffic. I guess the keywords that get the desired pictures would surely tend to make person steal the image.
