Default 'Rude' words filters - 03-06-2008, 09:45 AM

Is it just me, or does anyone else find these rude word filter things on forums unbelievably annoying? There's one on this forum, and I find it most patronising to see the *** (think backside if it appears as stars!) taken out of the word ***ume.

LOL yes, and p a s s... sometimes it is a little over the top.

On ours we use it as a bit of a joke as well.. we have the word 'work' come up as 'w*rk' and wait for the newbies to ask us why it's censored so we can tell them that we don't use that sort of dirty language on this forum.. heheh...

We also used to have things like a certain ex-players name come up as 'judas' which of course we always found highly amusing, but when we have visitors from other clubs come to read, they don't know who we mean so we've changed it back.

Apart from work (giggle) the only words we now censor are the 'big 2' - the F word, and the C word.

We are a mostly grown up forum, but we do have some kids come along, and most people know to watch their language.

They are a bit annoying, especially since there aren't any kids here, as far as I can tell.

Even if there were, the parents should be doing the filtering, not us.

Sagemother,
I couldn't have said that better myself.....though I tried under another topic when I attempted to ***ist a member with the ***embly of a forum tool kit and couldn't give him the URL to a guide to running an online forum because it is on ***ociated content and even the URL link was blocked.
