Cool religion on forums - 05-04-2007, 10:44 PM

Wooo hooo ... 1st post in this forum

Well I'll start off light. Why do people push religion so much on all off-topic forums. Nevermind if the forum is about computers, sex, hosting, baking or even clute little puppies, they have to bring in some problems of religion. Why this guy is better then that or why you will go to hell and I'm going to heaven.

I rwalise that most religions promote preaching but it does get too much.

my 2c

I completely disagree with you. If people can talk all day about britney spear's stupid antics and paris hilton's sex habits, why cannot they discuss one of the most fundamental and essential things in human life, religion.

It's ok to discuss and promote religion as long as no one is offended or verbally abused. As long as religion is discussed in a mature and polite way, there's no problem with discussing it on any forum. There's so much to faith

Oh my, i'm sounding like a preacher. OK i will stop

I would rather say that I am not a person who is comfortable in speaking about religion or promoting my religion. I do celebrate Christmas, visit church anytime I need peace of mind and even perform prayers in a Hindu temple almost twice a week and even celebrate Muslim festival along with my friends and perform prayers. According to me it doesn't matter what religion a person belongs to all that matters is whether you are human or not. As far as discussions on forums is concerned, it is basic topic and many have their own opinions. So, share your views and not degrade other religions and promote your own, every religion has its own values.

Absolutely agree with you. Nowadays people always wasting their time just gossiping about celebrities and talking nonsense about politics and so on. Why not they take a few minutes just to think about their life.

Actually they only want to bring people to the right path. Is that what they are doing is wrong? Ask yourself..

Religion is a very touchy subject to many as it is personal for each person if they happen to embrace it. I would love to see it not be pushed onto others, but at times I do not think that people realize that they are being pushy but rather just sharing their views. What do you think?

It shouldn't be pushed onto others and neither should really spread a word that one religion is more than other. It is individual opinion and views which differ from person to person. I would rather like to just not comment on other religion and don't wish to argue about my religion and portray it to be best one.

Excellent! This was put so much better then I was going to say. I totally agree. Often our religion is our world view and so many things get filter through it. I think all forums should have a space for this discussion and when you see it happening again move it to that space and gently remind people to please post it to the politics/religion section. Check out my new thread about hot debates I am very interested in know peoples ideas on this. Of course religion can often be a hotly debated item.

It is better to have a space for discussion about this topic but hopefully it should continue to be healthy discussion rather than offending other and proving your religion to be best over others.
